Dihydro-D-erythro-Sphingosine is a compound that acts as a protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor, with an IC50 value of 2-4 µM. It plays a role in ceramide biosynthesis and mitogenesis and exhibits activity in vitro. Dihydro-D-erythro-Sphingosine serves as a precursor for ceramide and sphingosine and is also utilized as a substrate by sphingosine kinases, which produce sphinganine-1-phosphate. Notably, sphinganine levels experience a significant increase in response to certain mycotoxins including fumonisins. Dihydro-D-erythro-Sphingosine functions as an inhibitor for PKC, while also blocking phospholipases A2 (PLA2) and the precursor of D-sphingosine.
