4-amino-2,6-dimethylphenol, also known as 4-Dimethylaminophenol (4-DMAP) is an organic compound used in various scientific research applications, such as organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry. It is used as a reagent for the synthesis of various organic compounds, such as amines, esters, and carboxylic acids. In addition, 4-amino-2,6-dimethylphenol is also used as an enzyme inhibitor and as a reagent for the determination of nitrite and nitrate in water. Specifically, it inhibits the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are responsible for the metabolism of many other compounds.
