4-amino-2,6-dimethylphenol, also known as 4-Dimethylaminophenol (4-DMAP) is an organic compound used in various scientific research applications, such as organic synthesis, analytical chemistry, and biochemistry. It is used as a reagent for the synthesis of various organic compounds, such as amines, esters, and carboxylic acids. In addition, 4-amino-2,6-dimethylphenol is also used as an enzyme inhibitor and as a reagent for the determination of nitrite and nitrate in water. Specifically, it inhibits the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes, which are responsible for the metabolism of many other compounds. Studies have found antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of 4-amino-2,6-dimethylphenol.
