4,4′-Bipyridyl is used in the preparation of nanostructures obtained by self-assembly of Ag6[PV3Mo9O40] with N-donor ligands. It serves as a ligand in the preparation of coordination polymers. 4,4′-Bipyridyl is a bidentate ligand, meaning it can bind to two metal ions at once. This allows it to form coordination complexes with a variety of metal ions, such as copper, iron, and cobalt.
