Ganglioside GD1a disodium salt is the major ganglioside in the mammalian brain. Believed to be a differentiation marker for stem cell growth. Has shown a stimulatory effect on phagocytosis and phagosome-lysosome (P-L) fusion in a dose-dependent manner on S. aureus. Shown to modulate the Ca-dependent post-translational regulation of GAP-43. Shown to induce rapid phosphorylation of GAP-43 and stimulate ca-dependent proteolysis of GAP-43. Ganglioside GD1a disodium salt is an inhibitor of PKC.
