Ferulenol is a prenylated 4-hydroxycoumarin from Ferula communis. Ferulenol exerts taxol-like and dose-dependent cytotoxicity against various human tumor cell lines. Stimulator of tubulin polymerization in vitro and inhibitor of colchicine binding to tubulin. Antithrombotic, depressing the activity of all vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors. Ferulenol may act to have a higher activity than warfarin and lower toxicity. Ferulenol may act to display microtubule-interacting properties and anti-bacterial activity. In addition, it has been recently shown that ferulenol induces mitochondrial dysfunction. Antitubercular antibiotic with potent activity against Mycobacteria. Ferulenol shows hepatocyte toxicity.
