3′-Hydroxy-D-sepiapterin is a useful standard when measuring urine levels of 3′-hydroxy-D-sepiapterin, which is elevated in patients suffering from dihydropterin defiency (phenylketonuria). Elevated levels of 3′-dihodroxy-D-sepiapterin have also been measured in AIDS patients.
