3-(p-Tolyl)propionic acid, also called p-toluic acid is an organic compound believed to function as an inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. Acetylcholinesterase is responsible for breaking down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. By blocking the activity of this enzyme, 3-(p-Tolyl)propionic acid can raise the levels of acetylcholine.
