3-Methyl-1,1-diphenylurea (3-MPDU) is a diphenylurea compound used to stabilize thermal propellants. These propellants include EI propellant, ECL propellant, NC / NG propellant and Smoke propellant. 3-Methyl-1,1-diphenylurea is used as a plasticizer and in automobile airbags as a gas stabilizer. It is a versatile intermediate in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, such as thiophene and pyrazole derivatives. Additionally, it has been used in the development of analytical methods for the detection of toxic and hazardous substances, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
