3-(isothiocyanatomethyl)pyridine is an isocyanate-substituted pyridine compound for proteomics research. It is a derivative of the natural compound allyl isothiocyanate (AITC), which is found in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and mustard. 3-(isothiocyanatomethyl)pyridine has potent anticancer and antimicrobial activity. In vitro studies have shown that it induces apoptosis in cancer cells by activating the caspase pathway. Additionally, it inhibits the activity of various enzymes such as topoisomerase II, which is involved in DNA replication and repair. It also inhibits the growth of several bacterial and fungal pathogens by blocking the activity of various enzymes involved in cell wall synthesis and energy metabolism. Furthermore, this compound been shown to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.
