3-Indoleglyoxylic acid is a chemical used for synthesizing many things, particularly analogs of pyhtoalexins as anticancer agents. It is also a reactant to synthesize fenbufen and ethacrynic acid derivatives. It is also used to synthesize tertiary amides and fuconojirimycin derivatives as inhibitors of α-Fucosidases. Perhaps the most useful is the synthesis of oxazinin-3, oxazinin-2, and oxazinin-1 via intramolecular addition and cyclization reactions.
