3-Hydroxy Benzopyrene is an ortho- and peri-fused polycyclic arene compound. It serves as a metabolite of benzopyrene, a known carcinogenic component found in tobacco smoke. Benzopyrene, also referred to as benzo[a]pyrene, is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) that arises from the incomplete combustion of organic substances, including tobacco smoke and vehicle exhaust. It has been implicated in the development of lung cancer.
