Sodium DL-lactate solution is a sodium salt of lactic acid, which is useful as an intermediate in the synthesis of depsipeptides. Studies suggest that Sodium DL-lactate can induce pulmonary apoptosis, via restricting phosphorylation to apoptotic proteins such as NOS3 (eNOS). In addition, Sodium DL-lactate can increase blood glucose and plasma insulin levels. Sodium DL-lactate solution is a hygroscopic agent and a component of natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Sodium DL-lactate solution can regulate pyruvate uptake and metabolism in the preimplantation mouse embryo. Sodium DL-lactate contains racemic lactate; an equal mixture of the D- and L-stereoisomers.
