3-Cysteinylacetaminophen Trifluoroacetic Acid Salt is an acetaminophen metabolite implicated in nephrotoxicity. This compound has been used in research to study the metabolism and toxicology of acetaminophen. Specifically, it is used to investigate the role of glutathione, a natural antioxidant molecule, in protecting against acetaminophen-induced liver damage. In mice, 3-cysteinylacetaminophen decreases renal glutathione (GSH) levels, an effect that can be blocked by the γ-glutamyl inhibitor acivicin.
