Scriptaid is an HDAC inhibitor (histone deacetylase). HDACs are modifying enzymes that are involved in the regulation of gene transcription, cell proliferation, and chromosome remodeling. Scriptaid has been reported to inhibit all three class I HDACs (HDAC1, HDAC3, HDAC8). Breast cancer cell studies demonstrate that Scriptaid, in combination with 5-Aza-2′-Deoxycytidine (sc-202424), elevates the expression of the estrogen receptor alpha. Scriptaid has been described to reactivate the latent HIV-1 promoter in Jurkat T cell lines, and elicit glioma cell apoptosis by activating JNK and blocking telomerase activity. Nullscript (sc-222084) serves as the negative control for Scriptaid.
