(R)-Ibuprofen, also named as R(−)-ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory, is the less active enantiomer of ibuprofen, an inhibitor of Cox-1 and Cox-2. Most of the activity resides in (S)-ibuprofen. It has been observed that the inversion of (R)-Ibuprofen to the S(+) antipode occurs in rat liver but not in either serosal or mucosal sides of the small intestine. (R)-Ibuprofen′s presence can be detected in urine through mass chromatography.
