3,4-(Methylenedioxy)cinnamic acid is an inhibitor of the phenylpropanoid enzyme 4-hydroxycinnamoyl-CoA ligase. It undergoes electron transfer reaction with trichloromethylperoxyl radical and reaction has been studied by pulse radiolysis. 3,4-Methylenedioxycinnamic acid (3,4-MDC) is a naturally occurring organic compound classified as one of the aromatic cinnamic acids. Despite its remarkable effects, the precise mechanism of action of 3,4-Methylenedioxycinnamic acid remains a subject of ongoing investigation. However, it is believed to operate by inhibiting several enzymes and pathways that play roles in oxidative stress. Additionally, it has shown inhibitory effects on nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), a transcription factor that regulates inflammation and oxidative stress. Furthermore, 3,4-Methylenedioxycinnamic acid has also been found to inhibit the activity of 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), an enzyme involved in the production of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes.
