3,4-Bis(trifluoromethyl)benzoic acid (3,4-BTMBA) is an organic compound with a variety of uses in scientific research. For example, it is used in the synthesis of other compounds, biochemical and physiological studies, and as a stabilizing agent for organic compounds. 3,4-BTMBA is useful for creating polymers, dyes, and fragrances. It can act as a proton acceptor and a nucelophile. It may act to inhibit the activity of enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase, which is involved in the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. It also inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase-2, an enzyme involved in the production of inflammatory compounds.
