3,3-Dimethylbutyric acid is used in the synthesis of imidazo[4,5-c]pyridine derivatives as anitmicrobial agents. It is also used in the synthesis of essential fatty acids, and is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. 3,3-Dimethylbutyric acid can also be used to study cell signaling pathways, including studying the role of G-protein coupled receptors in signal transduction.
