Elastatinal ist ein Proteaseinhibitor. Studien haben gezeigt, dass Elastatinal den Abbau der H1-Histon- und HMG-Proteine durch Phenylmethylsulfonylfluorid (PMSF, sc-3597) wirksam hemmen kann. Elastatinal ist ein Elastase-Inhibitor und hat die Fähigkeit bewiesen, Poliovirus- und Rhinovirus-2A-Proteinasen in vitro zu hemmen. Außerdem hat es keine Auswirkungen auf die DNA-Reparatur und den UV-induzierten Austausch von Schwesterchromatiden und hemmt die Spaltungen an Ala-Ala-Bindungen in Peptiden, die die Capsid/Nucleocapsid-Stelle darstellen. Elastatinal ist ein Inhibitor der neutrophilen Elastase.
