3-(2-Oxo-cyclohexyl)-propionic acid, or 3-OCP, is an organic compound belonging to the group of cyclic beta-keto acids. It is widely used in scientific research applications, such as in the study of enzyme-catalyzed reactions and metabolic pathways. It serves as a substrate for the enzyme cytochrome P450, which catalyzes the oxidation of 3-(2-Oxo-cyclohexyl)-propionic acid to form the corresponding aldehyde. In addition, 3-(2-Oxo-cyclohexyl)-propionic acid may act to inhibit the activity of aldose reductase, an enzyme involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates.
