2-Phenyl-2-butanol (2-PB) is a volatile organic compound (VOC) found in various plant species. It is used to synthesize 2-phenylbutane in trifluoroacetic acid-dichloromethane. In addition, 2-Phenyl-2-butanol has been used in the production of polymers and plastics. Furthermore, it serves as a model compound for studying the mechanism of action of enzymes like carboxylesterases, as well as for investigating the interaction of VOCs with air pollutants such as ozone and nitrogen dioxide. Additionally, 2-Phenyl-2-butanol acts as an antioxidant, which explains its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
