2-Naphthol, also referred to as 1-hydroxy-2-naphthaldehyde, occurs naturally in various plants, including tobacco and coffee. It is an odoriferous, colorless organic compound used in the production of dyes. Additionally, 2-Naphthol serves as a intermediate in the synthesis of numerous organic compounds and finds applications in scientific research. In vivo, it aids in compounds like 2-naphthyl-β-D-glucopyranoside, which functions as a substrate in enzyme assays.
