QUICK LINKS

(2-Hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin solution is a cyclic oligosaccharide that contains seven D-(+)-glucopyranose units. (2-Hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin is used for drug-delivery studies. (2-Hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin solution increases the solubility of lipophilic drugs by forming a complex between the drug and the non-polar cavity of (2-Hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin solution. For this application, (2-Hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin solution excels with compounds containing a phenyl group. (2-Hydroxypropyl)-β-cyclodextrin solution interacts in a solution with other compounds, isolating the aromatic portion of the molecule from the water, increasing its aqueous solubility as a result.
