The labeled form of the disodium salt of 2-Hydroxyglutaric acid, this compound holds great potential as an inhibitor of glutamate carboxypeptidase. Notably, 2-Hydroxyglutaric acid disodium is the primary metabolite that accumulates in the neurometabolic disorder known as D-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria. It acts as a weak competitive antagonist of α-ketoglutarate (α-KG), impeding the function of multiple α-KG-dependent dioxygenases with a Ki value of 10.87 mM. Furthermore, this compound has been observed to increase the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and exhibits inhibitory effects on ATP synthase and mTOR signaling pathways.
