2-Demethyl Colchicine is a metabolite of Colchicine, an alkaloid found the plant family Colchicaceae. It is a highly potent and selective inhibitor of tubulin polymerization and has been used in scientific research for its ability to interfere with cell division and microtubule formation. It binds to the colchicine binding site of the tubulin protein, which prevents the tubulin from forming microtubules. As a result, the cell cycle is disrupted and cell division is inhibited. 2-Demethyl Colchicine has been employed in a variety of applications, including cell cycle analysis and protein-protein interaction studies. It also shows anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor activity.
