QUICK LINKS

2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-(dimethylaminomethyl)phenol is a white crystalline substance that dissolves in organic solvents like methanol and ethanol, but exhibits limited solubility in water. It remains stable when exposed to light and oxygen. This compound is a manufactured antioxidant and is incorporated in various commercial goods ranging from plastics, rubber, paints, textiles, to detergents. Its role often revolves around serving as a corrosion inhibitor and offering protection against prolonged radiation exposure. Its antioxidant characteristics might stem from its capacity to neutralize free radicals or prevent lipid peroxidation. When subjected to high temperatures, it interacts with oxygen. The resultant compounds are organically soluble, but not water-soluble. Additionally, it reacts when exposed to potent oxidizers such as potassium permanganate or nitric acid.
