2,4-Dimethylbenzyl chloride (DMBC) is an organic compound used in a variety of applications, including as a precursor to agrochemicals and other organic compounds. It has also been used as a catalyst in chemical reactions, such as the Friedel-Crafts alkylation of benzene. The reaction proceeds via a carbocation intermediate, which is formed from the 2-chloro-2,4-dimethylpentane. The carbocation then reacts with the benzene ring, forming the desired product. Additionally, 2,4-Dimethylbenzyl chloride has been used as a model compound to study the mechanism of action of other organic compounds.
