QUICK LINKS

2,4-Dichloro-1-naphthol (2,4-DCPN) can be used in determining kidney disfunction by guanidinoacetate and guanidinosuccinate assay of urine. It is used as a reagent in organic synthesis, as a catalyst in the synthesis of other compounds, and as a dye. It is also used in the study of enzyme activity, as a marker for the detection of certain types of bacteria, and as a component of certain types of plastics. 2,4-Dichloro-1-naphthol is an electrophilic compound. Studies have demonstrated that it possesses the ability to inhibit the function of specific enzymes, such as lipases and proteases. Moreover, it has been observed to reduce the activity of particular hormones, including insulin and glucagon, as well as decrease the activity of specific neurotransmitters, like dopamine and serotonin.
