2,4,6-Tris(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine is a triazine compound that is functionalized with three pyridyl groups. It is known for its coordination chemistry and applications in analytical chemistry. The s-triazine ring at its core and pyridyl groups enables it to act as a ligand, capable of forming complexes with various metal ions. 2,4,6-Tris(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine can be employed along with ferrous ion to form a complex that allows for spectrophotometric determination of acetaminophen in samples of serum and plasma. One of the most well-known applications of it is in the Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) assay, where it is used to detect and quantify the antioxidant capacity of plasma and other biological samples. In this assay, 2,4,6-Tris(2-pyridyl)-s-triazine reacts with ferric ions (Fe^3+) to form a stable, colored complex with ferrous ions (Fe^2+), which can be measured spectrophotometrically. The intensity of the color produced is proportional to the total antioxidant capacity of the sample being tested.
