2,3-dinor-11β-Prostaglandin F2α, a major F2 isoprostane metabolite, has been shown to be produced in vivo by free radical-dependent peroxidation of arachidonic acid (sc-200770). This non-enzymatic production of prostaglandins is thought to limit the efficacy of COX-2 inhibitors, and could potentially be used as a measure of oxidative stress. It has been suggested that 2,3-dinor-11β-Prostaglandin F2α may play a role in inflammation, as increased levels have been observed in cases of asthma and mastocytosis.
