2-(2H-Benzotriazol-2-yl)-4,6-bis(1-methyl-1-phenylethyl)phenol can be used in the analytical determination of polycarboxylic acids. It is used for assessing the concentration of these acids within a sample through an oxidation process with oxygen, followed by measuring the resulting carbon dioxide produced. By interacting with polycarboxylic acid molecules, it forms diazonium salts, which are subsequently quantified using a carbonyl group. 2-(2H-Benzotriazol-2-yl)-4,6-bis(1-methyl-1-phenylethyl)phenol′s hydroxyl group contributes to its reactivity, engaging with fatty acids to form an ester and alcohol. It is also a low-volatile benzotriazole UV light absorber and stabilizer.
