2-(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)pyrrolidine (2,5-DMPP) is related to the pyrrolidine family of compounds. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAO). This inhibition leads to an increase in the levels of serotonin and other monoamines in the brain, which creates antidepressant effects. In addition, studies have reported neuroprotective and anxiolytic-like properties of 2-(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)pyrrolidine.
