QUICK LINKS

17-PA is a steroid analog and selective antagonist of neurosteroid modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors. 17-PA inhibits neurosteroid-induced potentiation of GABA receptor activity, including both the enhancement of GABA-mediated responses and the direct activation (gating) of GABA receptors by 5α-reduced neurosteroids. 17-PA demonstrates selective antagonistic activity toward 5α-reduced neurosteroids, with minimal inhibitory effect on GABA receptor modulation by 5β-reduced neurosteroids. As a GABA receptor modulator, 17-PA is widely used in research studying neurosteroid regulation of GABAergic signaling and receptor function.
