11-β-Hydroxyandrosterone is a naturally occurring androgen metabolite derived from 11β-hydroxyandrostenedione. It serves as a 11-oxygenated steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands in response to stress. Notably, this hormone has been identified in human urine samples and exhibits high sensitivity for detection even at low concentrations. In plasma, 11-β-hydroxyandrosterone is bound to corticosteroid binding globulin (CBG). In addition to its presence, the oxidation products 11-ketoandrosterone and 5α,11β-dihydroxyandrosterone can also be detected in urine and plasma. These metabolites are formed through the action of the enzyme 11βHSD2, which converts cortisone into active cortisol.
