1-Octanoyl-rac-glycerol is a monoacylglycerol that incorporates octanoic acid at the sn-1 position. Its application as a 15 wt% solution in ethanol has been found to reduce the growth of several bacteria and pathogenic fungi, such as C. albicans and C. parapsilosis, on textiles. Moreover, 1-Octanoyl-rac-glycerol, when combined with ethanol or 2-mercaptoethanol, demonstrates the ability to dissolve gallstones in vitro.
