1-Nitropyrene (1-NP) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH). The formation of 1-Nitropyrene occurs during the incomplete combustion of organic matter. 1-Nitropyrene is prevalent in numerous industrial processes, including diesel exhaust, coal combustion, and other combustion sources. Notably, 1-Nitropyrene possesses mutagenic properties, as it interacts with DNA, inducing structural alterations and promoting the formation of mutations.
