1-Iodononane can be used to synthesize Sch II, a cerebroside that induces fruiting body formation in the basidiomycete Schizophyllum commune. Used in the synthesis of amines and other organic molecules. 1-Iodononane is a lipophilic compound and can be used as a surfactant to reduce the surface tension of aqueous solutions. Additionally, it is able to solubilize non-polar compounds in aqueous solutions.
