1-Chloro-3-fluoro-2-propanol, also known as CF2OH, is a halohydrin compound used as a building block in organic synthesis. It has been employed in the synthesis of pesticides, polymers, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, and polystyrene. 1-Chloro-3-fluoro-2-propanol is an electrophilic reagent. Its reactivity is due to the presence of a halogen atom, which is highly electronegative and attracts electrons. The halogen atom also acts as a leaving group, allowing for a nucleophile to attack the carbon atom of the 1-Chloro-3-fluoro-2-propanol molecule.
