QUICK LINKS

1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate is an imidazolium-based, hydrophobic, room temperature ionic liquid. It is used as a coagulant for wastewater treatment and the removal of heavy metals from wastewater. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate shows photochemical properties, likely attributed to its light absorption capacity at wavelengths of 300 nm or greater. The hydroxyl group present on the butyl side chain of this ionic liquid enables it to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules. These hydrogen bonding interactions, facilitated by the hydroxyl group, allow for high values of constant pressure.
