1-Bromo-3-chloropropane is a solvent that has been described as a less toxic replacement for chloroform in the liquid-phase separation and isolation of RNA from DNA and proteins. It is efficacious in the single-step isolation of RNA from rat liver and various tissues, human placenta and human MCF-7 cells, and from bean and corn sprout plant material. No significant difference in RNA recovery was observed between chloroform and 1-Bromo-3-chloropropane as solvents in this process.
