QUICK LINKS

1,4-D-Xylobiose is a disaccharide that occurs through a 1,4-linkage. It is a byproduct of hemicellulose degradation, which is catalyzed by xylanases. Xylobiose, a disaccharide present in the cell walls of certain plants like corn, wheat, and oats, is constituted of xylose and glucose monosaccharides. It serves as a common constituent of dietary fiber and has been extensively investigated for its potential health advantages. Xylobiose exhibits a broad spectrum of biological activities, encompassing anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties. It achieves this by modulating the function of specific enzymes involved in glucose metabolism. Moreover, xylobiose can bind to specific receptors, such as the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor, and activate pathways that regulate glucose metabolism. In vitro studies have demonstrated that xylobiose can impede cancer cell growth, alleviate inflammation, reduce oxidative stress, and potentially lower the risk of obesity and diabetes.
