1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid is used as a model compound to study the structure and reactivity of substances. It serves as a starting material for creating other compounds, including 1-cyclopentyl-4-chlorobenzene. 1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid is used as a reference for NMR spectroscopy calibration. It is also a strong inhibitor of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. By binding to the active site of the COX enzyme, it effectively blocks catalytic activity, consequently inhibiting the formation of prostaglandins. This unique inhibition gives 1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
