1,4,5,8-Tetrahydroxy anthraquinone (THAQ) is a naturally occurring hydroxy anthraquinone derivative most found in the leaves of the Cassia angustifolia plant. It inhibits the activity of enzymes and proteins involved in various metabolic pathways. Specifically, it has been found to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), which are involved in the biosynthesis of melanin and prostaglandins, respectively. In vitro studies have demonstrated that 1,4,5,8-Tetrahydroxy anthraquinone has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties.
