1,2,3,7,8-Pentachlorodibenzo-P-dioxin, a member of the dioxin family, is a highly toxic and persistent organic pollutant (POP) with detrimental effects on the environment. It is generated as a byproduct during industrial processes such as incineration, paper bleaching, and pesticide manufacturing. 1,2,3,7,8-Pentachlorodibenzo-P-dioxin possesses high lipophilicity, enabling its solubility in fats and subsequent accumulation in fatty tissue. It can interfere with DNA functioning, disrupting the normal cellular processes.
