1,2,3,4,6-Penta-O-galloyl-β-D-glucopyranose (PGG) is a polyphenol found in various plants that is known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It is a type of gallotannin that is found in the bark of trees such as oak and chestnut, as well as in some fruits and vegetables. It induces apoptosis in DU145 and LNCaP cells, affects downstream products of (FRAP) mTOR, and is an inhibitor of PAI-1. 1,2,3,4,6-Penta-O-galloyl-β-D-glucopyranose exhibits an in vitro growth-inhibiting effect on human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line, SK-HEP-1 cells. It has also been shown to increase the activity of certain enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase and catalase, which are important for protecting cells from oxidative damage.
