(R)-(+)-Limonene, also known as D-Limonene, is a monoterpene found in citrus oils, Cannabis, and many other plants such as rosemary. It′s a significant component of the oil obtained from citrus peels. This compound is recognized for its various biological activities. For instance, it′s known to inhibit the growth of a wide range of bacteria, including S. aureus, B. cereus, E. faecalis, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, K. pneumoniae, M. catarrhalis, and C. neoformans. In laboratory studies, it has been observed to hinder tumor growth and decrease the number of metastases in certain organs. It has also been seen to reverse doxorubicin-induced declines in glutathione (GSH) levels in rat kidneys. (R)-(+)-Limonene is used in a variety of applications, including as a flavoring and fragrance agent. It′s highly associated with plant and insect interactions due to its ability to attract insects. It′s the primary constituent of the essential oil extracted from Anethum sowa Roxb. (Indian dill). It′s also a key ingredient in cosmetic products, making it a frequently employed compound in the industry. This optically active form of limonene is present in a clear colorless liquid with a pleasant lemon-like odor. It′s been found in human epidermis, skin tissues, and various biofluids such as feces, urine, and blood. The compound primarily resides in the cytoplasm and membrane within the cell. Furthermore, it′s known that (R)-(+)-Limonene can be converted into other compounds via biological processes.
