캅신 계열의 단백질 분해 효소에는 여러 가지 다양한 종류의 프로테아제가 포함되어 있습니다. 시스테인 프로테아제 계열은 켑신 B, L, H, K, S, O로 구성되며, 아스파틸 프로테아제 계열은 켑신 D와 E로 구성되며, 켑신 G는 세린 프로테아제 계열에 속합니다. 대부분의 켑신은 리소좀형이며 각각 세포 대사에 관여하여 펩타이드 생합성 및 단백질 분해와 같은 다양한 사건에 참여합니다. 또한 켑신은 일부 단백질 전구체를 절단하여 조절 펩타이드를 방출할 수도 있습니다. 켑신 D 유전자의 프로모터 영역에는 5개의 Sp1 결합 부위와 4개의 AP-2 결합 부위가 있습니다.
