Apelin Antibody (2A1-2D5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects the Apelin protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Apelin antibody (2A1-2D5) is available as the non-conjugated format. Apelin (APEL) serves as an endogenous ligand for the APJ receptor and acts as an alternate coreceptor with CD4 during HIV-1 infection, playing a crucial role in inhibiting HIV-1 entry into cells that express both APJ and CD4. Apelin protein undergoes proteolytic processing, resulting in the generation of several active peptides, including Apelin-36, which is currently being studied as a potential plasma marker for cardiopulmonary disease. Notably, Apelin is predominantly expressed in the brain, particularly in regions such as the thalamus, frontal cortex, hypothalamus, and midbrain, highlighting its significance in central nervous system functions. Additionally, Apelin is secreted by the mammary gland into colostrum and milk, suggesting that oral intake of Apelin during early life may play a vital role in modulating immune responses in neonates and newborns. Furthermore, Apelin has been identified as a potent stimulator of cardiac contractility, indicating its potential involvement in the regulation of the cardiovascular system.
