Compound E is a cell permeable non-competitive inhibitor of γ-secretase. Studies indicate that Compound E is a multifunctional transmembrane protein complex that enzymatically catalyzes the cleavage of single-pass transmembrane proteins. One of the most common substrates for Compound E is amyloid precursor protein. Compound E is also known as γ-Secretase Inhibitor, γ-Secretase Inhibitor XXI, GSI, and N-[(1S)-2-[[(3S)-2,3-dihydro-1-methyl-2-oxo-5-phenyl-1H-1,4-benzodiazepin-3-yl]amino]-1-methyl-2-oxoethyl]-3,5-difluoro-benzeneacetamide.
