SMN Antibody (11F3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects SMN in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and immunofluorescence (IF). SMN, or survival of motor neuron, is a crucial protein involved in the assembly of spliceosomal small nuclear ribonucleoproteins (snRNPs), which are essential for pre-mRNA splicing. This process is vital for proper gene expression, ensuring introns are removed and exons are joined to form mature mRNA. SMN exists in multiple isoforms due to alternative splicing and forms a complex with several other proteins, including Gemin2, Gemin3, and various spliceosomal snRNP proteins, facilitating component assembly in the cytoplasm and recycling in the nucleus. SMN′s presence in both cytoplasm and nucleus, particularly in subnuclear structures known as gems, underscores SMN′s importance in cellular function and gene regulation. Mutations in the SMN gene are linked to spinal muscular atrophy, a severe neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor neuron loss, highlighting SMN′s critical role in neuronal health and function. With detection capabilities across various species and applications, anti-SMN antibody (11F3) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying molecular mechanisms underlying splicing and related disorders.
